Independence Trail Tel-Aviv - Walk into History
The Independence Trail is a flagship project of the Tel Aviv Municipality, which was dedicated in honor of Israel’s 70th Independence Day celebrations. The project expresses one of the main principles of the city's tourism strategy, which is the empowerment and accessibility of the National and Zionist heritage sites within its boundaries.
An experiential walking trail that connects 10 historical milestones tell the story of the beginning of Tel Aviv and the story of the Declaration of Independence. A fascinating journey that leads from a Hebrew city to a Hebrew state, begins at the corner of Rothschild and Herzl streets in 1909 and ends at the Independence Hall in 1948.
The 1-kilometer-long walking route is marked on the sidewalks of Rothschild Boulevard and the adjacent streets with a golden brass strip, illuminated at night by exceptional lighting. The circular trail begins with the First Kiosk, and continues to The Nahum Gutman Fountain, The Akiva Arieh Weiss House, The Herzliya Hebrew Gymnasium, The Great Synagogue, The Haganah Museum, The Bank of Israel, The Founders Monument, The Statue of Meir Dizengoff and The Independence Hall.
Walking on the trail is accompanied by printed maps, a guiding system, and a unique location-based app that will tell the stories of the places through the integration of innovative technologies, such as: Augmented Reality, 360° movies, animation, interactive content, Selfie spots, game-based activities etc. The app can be downloaded for free on any mobile device, and is accompanied by a virtual guide, which the visitor can choose at the beginning of the tour, from the following famous Israeli voices: Shlomo Artzi, Rivka Michaeli or Tal Moseri. The app is both in Hebrew and English.
The Independence Trail, by virtue of its location in the public sphere in one of the liveliest areas in Israel, enables free of charge exploration around the clock, 24/7. For this exceptional experience, a pavilion was set up on Rothschild Boulevard, staffed by information providers, tablets, guided tours and maps in eight different languages.
The project is managed by the municipal corporation "World City and Tourism" Tel Aviv Global.
